Online hypnotherapy sessions
Can Hypnotherapy Really Work Online/ On Zoom? One of the questions I ask on our consult call is, which will be the best for you? "In person or online session." To which the reply might be: "How can hypnotherapy work online?" It's a reasonable question. Many people imagine hypnosis needs to happen in a therapist's office, sitting in a special chair, with the therapist physically present in the room. The reality is that hypnosis doesn't happen because of the room you're in. It happens because of what's happening in your mind.
Whether you're sitting in my office or comfortably at home, hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention and relaxation. If you've ever become completely absorbed in a good book, lost track of time while watching a movie, or found yourself daydreaming while driving a familiar route, you've already experienced something similar to a hypnotic state.
Some people find that In-Person sessions are easier as there are no interuptions (ideally). During an online hypnotherapy session, we connect via Zoom and begin exactly as we would in person. We spend time talking about what's brought you to hypnotherapy and what you'd like to achieve. You might be looking to change wny of these habits; reduce anxiety, build confidence, lose weight, stop smoking, sleep better, or simply feel more in control of your thoughts and emotions. Whatever your goal, the session is tailored specifically to you.
Once we've discussed your situation, I'll guide you into a relaxed state using my voice. You'll be sitting comfortably in your own home, listening and following along. Most people are surprised by how natural it feels. In fact, after a few minutes, many clients forget they're even speaking to me through a screen.
A common misconception is that hypnosis means losing control or becoming unconscious. That's not how therapeutic hypnosis works. Throughout the session, you'll remain aware of what's happening. You'll hear my voice, know where you are, and be able to move, speak, or adjust your position if you need to. Most people describe the experience as deeply relaxing, similar to that peaceful feeling just before drifting off to sleep, while still being aware of their surroundings.
Many clients actually prefer online hypnotherapy because they feel more comfortable in their own environment. There's no need to battle traffic, find parking, or rush to an appointment. Instead, you can settle into your favourite chair, perhaps with a cup of tea nearby, and focus entirely on yourself and the changes you'd like to make. When the session ends, you're already home and can continue enjoying that sense of relaxation without needing to travel anywhere.
People often worry that they might not be able to be hypnotised. The good news is that most people can experience hypnosis quite easily. You don't need a special personality type, a strong imagination, or previous experience. You simply need a willingness to follow instructions and allow yourself to relax. Hypnosis is not something that is done to you. It's something we create together.
Another concern people sometimes have is whether interruptions will ruin the experience. The truth is that hypnosis isn't a fragile state. If the dog barks, the phone rings, or there's an unexpected noise, you remain fully capable of responding if necessary. You are always in control and can easily return your attention to the session.
Over the years, I've worked with clients not only in Cairns and Far North Queensland but throughout Australia via Zoom. Time and again, people tell me they were initially sceptical about online hypnotherapy but were pleasantly surprised by how effective and comfortable it felt.
The technology itself quickly fades into the background. What matters most is the connection, the conversation, and your willingness to engage in the process. The work we do together is every bit as personal, supportive, and focused on your goals as it would be in a face-to-face session.
If you've been curious about hypnotherapy but aren't sure whether online sessions could work for you, it may be worth exploring. You might discover that meaningful change can begin right from the comfort of your own home.
If you'd like to find out whether hypnotherapy could help with your particular goal, I'd be happy to answer your questions. No pressure. No obligation. Just a conversation about where you are now and where you'd like to be, discussed in a free phone consultation :)
